Winter snowfall
Wild Horse Ranch can experience significant snowfall during the winter months. Knowing the amount of snow expected and road conditions is crucial for planning travel and ensuring safety. Be prepared for icy conditions and potential road issues.

Monsoon Rains and Sometimes Large Hail
During the monsoon season, Wild Horse Ranch can receive heavy rainfall, which can lead to flash floods and muddy roads. It's vital to stay informed about weather alerts and avoid driving through flooded areas. Be aware of how the monsoon rains affect daily life at Wild Horse Ranch. Our monsoon season usually lasts from late June through September. One year we received hail the size of golf balls, which caused damage on vehicles, sky lights, and windows.

Muddy roads
Muddy roads are a common challenge in Wild Horse Ranch, especially after rainfall or snowmelt. Driving on muddy roads can be difficult and dangerous. Check road conditions before traveling and use appropriate vehicles when necessary. Understanding these conditions is important year-round. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended if you live in Wild Horse Ranch.
Weather Related Events at Wild Horse Ranch
From the major flooding of 2013 that flooded the Day Tank with 3 feet of water in the restrooms, to over 3 feet of snow in the Winter of 2011, every year can bring a very serious weather-related event. Temps can be as low as -20 degrees F or as high as 98 degrees F. Stay informed about the weather !!!
Two major flooding events also occurred July 22, 2021 - July 23, 2021 and again on August 18, 2022 - August 29, 2022.
This resulted in substantial damage to county roads, private roads, culverts, and hindered response of emergency services. Wild Horse Ranch was one of the communities names in the Catron County Emergency Resolution No. 20-2023, Declaring a Disaster in the County of Catron for the Severe Flooding Events of August 2022.
